Why It Matters

Why We Only Install These Three

We have installed enough roofs across Chicago-area homes to know which manufacturers perform reliably in this climate and which ones don't. Owens Corning, Malarkey, and DaVinci are the three we install without reservation.

All three are engineered for the conditions our homes actually face: hail, high winds, freeze-thaw cycling, humid summers, and the punishing temperature swings of a Chicago year. All three back their products with strong warranty programs. And all three require contractor certification, which means the best warranty coverage is only available through a roofer who has actually earned the certification.

We do not install commodity shingles, contractor-grade lines, or off-brand products. We install what we know holds up, and what we are prepared to stand behind for the next 30 to 50 years.

Owens Corning Preferred Contractor Manufacturer 1 of 3

Owens Corning

Owens Corning is the most recognized shingle brand in North America. Their architectural shingle lines (Duration, Duration FLEX, TruDefinition) are engineered with a reinforced nailing strip that holds the shingle tighter than standard nailing, which is why they carry some of the strongest wind ratings in the category.

When the whole roof, shingles, underlayment, vents, ridge cap, comes from Owens Corning and is installed by a Preferred Contractor, the entire system is covered together. That coverage tier is not available through an uncertified installer.

Preferred Protection Warranty Includes

  •  Non-prorated lifetime coverage on the shingles themselves
  •  Labor coverage for the first 10 years (most contractors do not offer this)
  •  Wind warranty up to 130 mph on qualifying products
  •  Transferable to the next owner if you sell the home

Available only through Owens Corning Preferred Contractors. Standard limited warranties from other roofers cover materials only, on a prorated basis.

Malarkey Roofing Products Certified Contractor Manufacturer 2 of 3

Malarkey

Malarkey shingles are different from a typical asphalt shingle. They are reinforced with rubber and plastic compounds that make the shingle more flexible and more impact-resistant, especially in cold weather. In plain terms: they handle Chicago's freeze-thaw winters and hail-prone summers better than a standard shingle.

Their top product lines carry Class 4 impact resistance, which is the highest hail rating available, and qualify many homeowners for an insurance premium discount once installed.

As a Malarkey Certified Contractor, our installations qualify for Malarkey's enhanced warranty, which covers both materials and labor and does not prorate over the life of the roof.

Three Malarkey Lines We Install

Vista AR

Algae-resistant architectural shingle with a Class 3 impact rating. Strong all-around choice for most homes in the Chicago suburbs.

Legacy AR

Malarkey's premium shingle with Class 4 hail impact rating. The top tier available. Our most-recommended line for hail-prone Chicago suburbs.

Windsor AR

A heavier dimensional shingle with serious visual depth. Designed for homes where curb appeal matters. Also Class 4 impact rated.

DaVinci Roofscapes Authorized Installer Manufacturer 3 of 3

DaVinci Roofscapes

DaVinci is the roof you choose when the look of your home matters as much as the protection. It is a premium synthetic shake or slate that gives your home a high-end, designer profile without the maintenance, weight, and vulnerability of real wood or stone.

Every DaVinci tile is engineered for the climate it will live in. It carries the top Class 4 hail impact rating, resists fading, moss, freeze-thaw, and moisture, and is backed by a 50-year limited warranty. For homes where standing out matters, this is the roof.

Why Homeowners Choose DaVinci

  •  The look of real shake or slate, without the upkeep
  •  Top-rated for hail impact (Class 4)
  •  Engineered to resist fading, moss, and moisture
  •  50-year limited warranty backed by DaVinci
What This Means For You

Why Certified Installer Status Matters to a Homeowner

An uncertified roofer can buy and install the same Owens Corning or Malarkey shingles we use. But they can only offer the basic limited warranty, which covers material defects only, on a prorated basis. A shingle issue at year 15 of a 30-year warranty? Roughly half-credit on materials, nothing on labor.

A certified installer's enhanced warranty covers both materials and labor, does not prorate, and runs the full warranted term. At year 20, that can be the difference between a fully covered roof and an out-of-pocket replacement.

Certification is also a quality check. Manufacturers audit certified installers' work and can pull the certification for substandard installation. Choosing a certified contractor is real quality assurance, not a marketing line.

Frequently Asked Questions

An Owens Corning Preferred Contractor has met Owens Corning's training and installation-quality standards and is authorized to offer the Preferred Protection warranty, an enhanced warranty tier that is not available through an uncertified installer. You can verify our Preferred Contractor status directly in Owens Corning's online contractor directory.

The standard limited warranty (offered by any roofer) covers material defects only, on a prorated basis. The enhanced Preferred Protection warranty, available only through Preferred Contractors like Americanstruction, includes non-prorated lifetime coverage on the shingles themselves, 10 years of labor coverage, wind warranty up to 130 mph on qualifying products, and transferability if you sell the home. It is a meaningfully stronger warranty.

Malarkey shingles are reinforced with rubber and plastic compounds, which makes them more flexible and more impact-resistant than a standard asphalt shingle. In a Chicago climate that means better cold-weather performance, less cracking through freeze-thaw cycles, and higher hail resistance. Their top product lines carry the Class 4 hail rating, the highest available, which can also qualify for an insurance discount on your homeowners policy.

Yes, for two reasons. First, not every shingle is built the same. Premium products from Owens Corning, Malarkey, and DaVinci outperform commodity shingles on wind resistance, hail resistance, and lifespan. Second, the warranty you actually get depends on both the product and whether your roofer is certified to install it. The strongest protection comes from a quality product installed by a certified contractor. Both decisions matter.
